Drinking in the Moonlight

Laying still and breathing softly,

In the darkness of this cold room.

The moons light trails in like water,

Flowing through the bedroom window,

Painting silhouettes casting shadows across the room.

The world is silent as if I were the only one left alive.

I close my eyes and cherish the thought.

To think I wouldn’t have to share these stars.

I drink from the moonlight and slowly drift away into another world.

A world that’s darker than these night skies.

I live it and forget it as if I’ve ceased to be alive.

With no memory of what’s transpired,

I contemplate the heavens, and I wonder…

Is this what death is like?

A consciousness that disappears,

Right before we inevitably wake once more.
