Today’s post is really just about something that I’ve found on the internet which I thought was really cool! Especially for anybody out there who is interested in writing.
Ever since I had started messing around with writing prompt generators on the internet, I’ve been experimenting with other types of writing generators. I stumbled across this website today which specializes in generating entire short stories based on some key details you choose beforehand. (I just pick the first suggestions that pop up)
This website is also capable of helping you cure your writer’s block, story ideas or weird meme fetishes. So be sure to bookmark this one.
The funny thing is, that some of these stories are actually genuinely well written, and funny. For example, I’ve played with about 4 of these story generators so far tonight and this was my favorite by far, down below. This is a movie screenplay made with some randomly generated bits.
So, I want to start off by giving this website a giant shout out for their creativeness;
This thing is truly awesome and kind of hilarious.
Interestingly enough, this has taught me more about how screenplays are written too.
Cold-blooded Hooligan
A Screenplay by The Wolf Boy
INT. HAMSTEAD HEATH, LONDON – AFTERNOON
Incredible housekeeper DR JAMES BUTTERSCOTCH is arguing with admirable gardener PROF MATHIAS THORNHILL. JAMES tries to hug MATHIAS but he shakes him off.
JAMES
Please Mathias, don’t leave me.
MATHIAS
I’m sorry James, but I’m looking for somebody a bit braver. Somebody who faces his fears head-on, instead of running away.
JAMES
I am such a person!
MATHIAS frowns.
MATHIAS
I’m sorry, James. I just don’t feel excited by this relationship anymore.
MATHIAS leaves.
JAMES sits down, looking defeated.
Moments later, virtuous psychiatrist DR KATHY VADER barges in looking flustered.
JAMES
Goodness, Kathy! Is everything okay?
KATHY
I’m afraid not.
JAMES
What is it? Don’t keep me in suspense…
KATHY
It’s … a hooligan … I saw an evil hooligan terrorize a bunch of swimmers!
JAMES
Defenseless swimmers?
KATHY
Yes, defenseless swimmers!
JAMES
Bloomin’ heck, Kathy! We’ve got to do something.
KATHY
I agree, but I wouldn’t know where to start.
JAMES
You can start by telling me where this happened.
KATHY
I was…
KATHY fans herself and begins to wheeze.
JAMES
Focus Kathy, focus! Where did it happen?
KATHY
a library! That’s right – a library!
JAMES springs up and begins to run.
EXT. A ROAD – CONTINUOUS
JAMES rushes along the street, followed by KATHY. They take a short cut through some back gardens, jumping fences along the way.
EXT. A LIBRARY – SHORTLY AFTER
ROGER ROCKATANSKY a cold-blooded hooligan terrorizes two swimmers.
JAMES, closely followed by KATHY, rushes towards ROGER, but suddenly stops in his tracks.
KATHY
What is it? What’s the matter?
JAMES
That’s not just any old hooligan, that’s Roger Rockatansky!
KATHY
Who’s Roger Rockatansky?
JAMES
Who’s Roger Rockatansky? Who’s Roger Rockatansky? Only the most cold-blooded hooligan in the universe!
KATHY
Blinkin’ knickers, James! We’re going to need some help if we’re going to stop the most cold-blooded hooligan in the universe!
JAMES
You can say that again.
KATHY
Blinkin’ knickers, James! We’re going to need some help if we’re going to stop the most cold-blooded hooligan in the universe!
JAMES
I’m going to need paperweights, lots of paperweights.
Roger turns and sees James and Kathy. He grins an evil grin.
ROGER
James Butterscotch, we meet again.
KATHY
You’ve met?
JAMES
Yes. It was a long, long time ago…
EXT. A PARK – BACK IN TIME
A young JAMES is sitting in a park listening to some reggae music when suddenly a dark shadow casts over him.
He looks up and sees ROGER. He takes off his headphones.
ROGER
Would you like some white mice?
JAMES‘s eyes light up, but then he studies ROGER more closely and looks uneasy.
JAMES
I don’t know, you look kind of cold-blooded.
ROGER
Me? No. I’m not cold-blooded. I’m the least cold-blooded hooligan in the world.
JAMES
Wait, you’re a hooligan?
JAMES runs away, screaming.
EXT. A LIBRARY – PRESENT DAY
ROGER
You were a coward then, and you are a coward now.
KATHY
(To JAMES) You ran away?
JAMES
(To KATHY) I was a young child. What was I supposed to do?
JAMES turns to ROGER.
JAMES
I may have run away from you then, but I won’t run away this time!
JAMES runs away.
He turns back and shouts.
JAMES
I mean, I am running away, but I’ll be back – with paperweights.
ROGER
I’m not scared of you.
JAMES
You should be.
EXT. CHIPPEWA SQUARE, SAVANNAH – LATER THAT DAY
JAMES and KATHY walk around searching for something.
JAMES
I feel sure I left my paperweights somewhere around here.
KATHY
Are you sure? It does seem like an odd place to keep deadly paperweights.
JAMES
You know nothing Kathy Vader.
KATHY
We’ve been searching for ages. I really don’t think they’re here.
Suddenly, ROGER appears, holding a pair of paperweights.
ROGER
Looking for something?
KATHY
Crikey, James, he’s got your paperweights.
JAMES
Tell me something I don’t already know!
KATHY
The earth’s circumference at the equator is about 40,075 km.
JAMES
I know that already!
KATHY
I pickle my earwax and keep it in a jar under my bed.
ROGER
(appalled) Dude!
While ROGER is looking at KATHY with disgust, JAMES lunges forward and grabs his deadly paperweights. He wields them, triumphantly.
JAMES
Prepare to die, you cold-blooded cabbage!
ROGER
No please! All I did was terrorize a bunch of swimmers!
MATHIAS enters, unseen by any of the others.
JAMES
I cannot tolerate that kind of behavior! Those swimmers were defenseless! Well now they have a defender – and that’s me! James Butterscotch defender of innocent swimmers.
ROGER
Don’t hurt me! Please!
JAMES
Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t use these paperweights on you right away!
ROGER
Because James, I am your father.
JAMES looks stunned for a few moments but then collects himself.
JAMES
No, you’re not!
ROGER
Ah well, it had to be worth a try.
ROGER tries to grab the paperweights but JAMES dodges out of the way.
JAMES
Who’s the daddy now? Huh? Huh?
Unexpectedly, ROGER slumps to the ground.
KATHY
Did he just faint?
JAMES
I think so. Well, that’s disappointing. I was rather hoping for a more dramatic conclusion, involving my deadly paperweights.
JAMES crouches over ROGER‘s body.
KATHY
Be careful, James. It could be a trick.
JAMES
No, it’s not a trick. It appears that… It would seem… Roger Rockatansky is dead!
JAMES
What?
JAMES
Yes, it appears that I scared him to death.
KATHY claps her hands.
KATHY
So your paperweights did save the day, after all.
MATHIAS steps forward.
MATHIAS
Is it true? Did you kill the cold-blooded hooligan?
JAMES
Mathias how long have you been…?
MATHIAS puts his arm around JAMES.
MATHIAS
Long enough.
JAMES
Then you saw it for yourself. I killed Roger Rockatansky.
MATHIAS
Then the swimmers are safe?
JAMES
It does seem that way!
A crowd of vulnerable swimmers enters, looking relieved.
MATHIAS
You are their hero.
The swimmers bow to JAMES.
JAMES
There is no need to bow to me. I seek no worship. The knowledge that Roger Rockatansky will never terrorize swimmers ever again, is enough for me.
MATHIAS
You are humble as well as brave!
One of the swimmers passes JAMES a healing ring
MATHIAS
I think they want you to have it, as a symbol of their gratitude.
JAMES
I couldn’t possibly.
Pause.
JAMES
Well, if you insist.
JAMES takes the ring.
JAMES
Thank you.
The swimmers bow their heads once more and leave.
JAMES turns to MATHIAS.
JAMES
Does this mean you want me back?
MATHIAS
Oh, James, of course, I want you back!
JAMES smiles for a few seconds but then looks defiant.
JAMES
Well, you can’t have me.
MATHIAS
WHAT?
JAMES
You had no faith in me. You had to see me scare a hooligan to death before you would believe in me. I don’t want a lover like that.
MATHIAS
But…
JAMES
Please leave. I want to spend time with the one person who stayed with me through thick and thin – my best friend, Kathy.
KATHY grins.
MATHIAS
But…
KATHY
You heard the gentleman. Now be off with you. skedaddle! Shoo!
MATHIAS
James?
JAMES
I’m sorry Mathias, but I think you should skedaddle.
MATHIAS leaves.
KATHY turns to JAMES.
KATHY
Did you mean that? You know … that I’m your best friend?
JAMES
Of course, you are!
The two walk off arm in arm.
Suddenly KATHY stops.
KATHY
When I said I pickle my earwax and keep it in a jar under my bed, you know I was just trying to distract the hooligan, don’t you?
THE END
I would love to hear your thoughts on this below! Are you impressed by that like I was? Haha…
P.s. I do not recommend using this website in lieu of your own creative imagination, but playing with these generators can definitely bring you some inspiration.
🙂 Mathew, I do not suffer from writer’s block.
However, your screenplay was enjoyable.

You’re fortunate! So how do you keep yourself from hitting a wall with your writing ever?

🙂 I keep myself from hitting a wall by thinking like a journalist (Something interesting is always happening all around me).
Also, one of the best ways to avoid writer’s block is delve into a topic that you know rather well.

Solid practical advice. I was thinking of interviewing some successful bloggers and writers to pick their minds and share their wisdom with other aspiring writers. I think you’d be a good candidate for this, would you be interested one day to answer a few questions via email?

🙂 I wouldn’t mind that at all, Mathew.

“When I said I pickle my earwax and keep it in a jar under my bed, you know I was just trying to distract the hooligan, don’t you?” – There are just no words to describe the fabulousness of this sentence.

I know, right? 😂
“ROGER
Me? No. I’m not cold-blooded. I’m the least cold-blooded hooligan in the world.
JAMES
Wait, you’re a hooligan?
JAMES runs away, screaming”
I think this was my favorite part. Too good.
