Every Single One of Us is Influential

“Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another.”Napoleon Hill

I’m going to tell you something that may surprise you, but every single person on this planet right now is influential. The way we handle ourselves, the way we pursue our goals, our outlook on life and the love that we show to others can all be incredibly influential. As human beings, we are primarily social creatures – even those of you who identify as somewhat of a lone wolf, like moi. Wolves still have their packs.

When we spend time around other people, they have an effect on us, whether we like to believe it or not. Not all influence is good. Some people do so little with their lives and time. They may make some of us feel content with our own ambition, or lack thereof, perhaps we even “relax” a little with our ambitions because they rub off on us in some way.

Not all influence is good but we are all influential. The question is, do you influence other’s lives for the better or for the worse?ย

When we affect another’s life for the better we are shining our light on them in a way that illuminates their best qualities. We bring something to their life that re-ignites a fire inside of them. We bring joy, a reprieve from woes, laughter, advice, assistance, love, a gentle touch, a smile, warmth, a kiss, security, friendship; something like that.

Being positively influential often comes as a result of not just thinking of ourselves, but taking into consideration the needs of someone else and making them important to us as well.

“What can we do or say to this person to make their life better right nowย without also sacrificing our own happiness in some way?”

In terms of goodness in the world, love is the most influential show of affection that we can give to another human being. Love is the sun’s glowing rays seeking out and tearing apart pain and darkness. It illuminates the world with color and warmth.

We can all be that source of sunshine in someone else’s life.

The funny thing is, we hardly ever have an effect on someone else that is entirely neutral. That is unless we have hardly any contact with that other person, but most often we are rubbing off on everyone else in either a positive or a negative way. Sometimes even a lack of action or words is saying something to another person.

The best way to be a good and positively influential person in the world is to just try to do no harm.

When you’re a jerk to someone else, proving your superiority over them or just generally brushing the feelings and needs of others aside you are making an impact. You are being influential. You are actively spreading your lack of care to those around you. Others, disheartened by your lack of care, may feel disheartened and spread the effect to others.

In Conclusion

So remember, you will always be influential. So please think about what kind of influence you want to be having on this world, whether you want to be creating a world that is more loving, inclusive, tolerant and progressive or whether you want to create a world full of pain, anger, fear and excuses. You and everyone around you makes an impact. So just take a moment to consider what kind of impact is being made.

  2. When my super supportive husband told my father I was going to write a book… my father laughed and said “that’ll be the day.” I’ve struggled since childhood with wanting to have his blessing, his faith, his approval. I didn’t realize his negative impact until after that day, when my husband apologized to me for the way my father reacted. I’m in my forties now, have had a blog for about a year, and am still trying for that book.

    1. I can relate. I’ve had a piss poor relationship with my father which took its toll on me. He would only ever say nice things about me if I’d achieved something and yet he would knock at my ability to be ABLE to achieve anything. Usually he would be trying to knock me down a peg and boast about himself. I haven’t spoken to him in a few years now. I realised I wouldn’t be able to find the courage to make my life the way I’d wanted it with him always there trying to chop me down.

I’m sorry that you’ve had to go through that and I hope you write your book! What’s it going to be about???
