Daughter dear,
I can feel you here.
You have a long way forward but my end is near,
And when I’m gone, release those fears,
Let them wash away with that stream of tears.
Let them wash away with that stream of tears…
For you have tremendous strength in you,
A capable mind and a heart that’s true,
Life has so much in store for you,
Believe in yourself and you can see this through.
Believe in yourself and you can see this through…
Like the tide that pulls in the great blue sea,
Your every joy, every pain, will make its way to me,
As I watch over you for an eternity.
Death will never take me, it will set me free.
Death won’t take me, it will set me free…
I love the repeated line at the end of each stanza. It is reminiscent of a Villanelle, but reads more like the echo of a powerful thought given as an individual entity to that stanza. The message you leave for your daughter is beautiful and moving. One of your best!

It was more of a song I tried to write while working the most mundane job for 12 hours straight. I needed something to do. And as they do my writing sometimes turns to the morbid side of life 😜.
Thank you Brad. I’ll get back to working on our project soon. How’ve you been?

Hopefully not! My mind was thinking far into a hypothetical future for this one. No worries. 😊

This is a lovely song. Any chance it will be set to music?

Heheh. I definitely sang it out as I was writing it. I need to learn an instrument and maybe i could write more music.

That sounds like fun, another mode of expression to add to your repertoire.
